The National Breast Cancer Research Institute raises funds in support of world-class breast cancer research at the National University of Ireland, Galway. The Charity raises funds for research from charity events, community-based fundraising, campaigns, and support from individuals and companies. We rely entirely on voluntary contributions and do not receive direct funding from government.
Donations to National Breast Cancer Research Institute are currently helping the research team at the Lambe Institute for Translational Research advance its work focused on:
- Personalised Medicine (Risk Prediction and Molecular Profiling)
- Breast Regeneration
- Innovative Diagnostics and Therapeutics
For example, in the area of personalised medicine, the research team’s cancer genetics programme is addressing the role family characteristics have in the development of cancer. The team is also determining how well patients will respond to drugs used in chemotherapy and hormonal therapy.
Many patients undergo breast reconstruction after mastectomy. In the area of breast regeneration, the research team is working to determine the feasibility of growing a new breast from a patient’s own cells.
In the area of innovative diagnostics and therapeutics, the team is working on a photo acoustic imaging platform that will allow the observation of blood flow going to a tumour during treatment in order to gauge the efficacy of the treatment.
The research team collaborates with universities and hospitals across the globe so its discoveries are not only creating an impact in Ireland but throughout the world.
Thank you for helping us make a difference.
