The 5th International Galway Masters International Basketball Tournament takes place on Saturday, October 31 and Sunday, November 1, at the Kingfisher Fitness Club NUI Galway. The Galway Masters Committee has selected Breast Cancer Research as their nominated charity.
Basketball teams from across Europe and the USA will travel to Galway to participate in the tournament, consisting of 52 games played by 27 teams in three divisions (women’s 40s, men’s 40s, and men’s 50s).
Helen Ryan, Chairperson of Breast Cancer Research, expressed her gratitude to the Galway Masters Organising Group, “We are so grateful to everyone at Galway Masters for selecting Breast Cancer Research as their nominated charity for 2015. Generosity and support like this contributes to our vision of improving outcomes for breast cancer patients. I’d like to wish all teams the very best of luck in the tournament.”
”As part of our annual International Basketball tournament, the Galway Masters committee nominate a local charity to benefit from funds raised at the tournaments gala dinner,” explains James Hanley, Galway Masters Tournament Director. ”Professor. Fred Given is well known in Galway for his work as a talented surgeon and founder of Breast Cancer Research. Once the charity was nominated it was a unanimous decision to support this worthy cause. Nearly 300 players will participate in this year’s over 40’s tournament, almost evenly divided between men and women. The startling statistic is that 15 of our female participants could be affected by this disease at some time during their lifetime.”
