The legendary Tulla Céilí Band will be out in full force at O’Sullivans Hotel, Gort on Saturday 5th May from 9:30pm in support of the Memorial Breast Cancer Research Fundraiser. The event is organised by Mary and Andrew Coen from Gort in memory of their daughter, Ann Marie Coen-Flanagan who lost her battle to breast cancer two years ago.
Speaking about the event Ann Marie’s Mother, Mary said; “Ann Marie was diagnosed with breast cancer in May of 2000. She had surgery and treatment under the care of Professor Macon Keane, Dr Pomeroy and Oncology Nurse Mary Grealish. She recovered well and enjoyed good health up to 2008. Unfortunately when her cancer returned it was this time in her bone. This was a very tough time for her and her family. She remained positive and upbeat refusing to give in to her illness and always with a smile. She fought valiantly right up to the end of her life on the 31st of December 2015. Ann Marie was always grateful to the medical team who gave her such great care”. She went on to say; “We are hosting this fundraiser in gratitude for the incredible care Ann Marie received from the doctors at UCHG and Gort Medical Centre. We hope that this fundraiser will benefit the ongoing research to find a cure for cancer.”
Monies raised from the event will go to Galway based charity, Breast Cancer Research formally the National Breast Cancer Research Institute (NBCRI), a national charity based in Galway who fundraise to support teams of researchers based at the Lambe Institute NUI, Galway lead by Professor Michael Kerin.
It’s sure to be a night not to be missed full of music, fun and memories in celebration of Ann Marie’s life. Refreshments will be served on the evening with raffles and lots of spot prizes to be won. Tickets are only €10 and available from Sullivan`s Hotel, Gort, Gort Credit Union, from members of the Coen and Flanagan Families and at the door on the night.
